Stuart Burton


Stuart Burton, Landscape Painter, Instructor and Founder of the Art Academy of San Diego

Stuart Burton obtained his B.A in Fine Art in Painting and Printmaking from San Diego State University in 1977 and has devoted his life to the pursuit of making, promoting, and teaching art. He has had over 40 solo shows and his works have been included in more than 65 group exhibitions in California, Arizona and New Mexico. Since 1980, Stuart has been using the landscape as his primary subject for exploring color, light, and texture in painting. His signature landscapes are rich in color and sure of stroke.

Through the years, Stuart has been involved in many aspects of art promotion. He has owned and operated Rogue Graphics since l980, and owned Stiff Springer Gallery, where he exhibited many of San Diego’s premiere artists from 1980 to 1992. Since 1998, he has devoted a great deal of his time as founder and Director of Fine Art at the Art Academy of San Diego a private fine arts school in San Diego’s North Park.

Stuart has sat on the Board of Directors for the San Diego Art Institute and the Spanish Village Art Center in Balboa Park. He holds memberships in the California Art Club, Oil Painters of America, the Impressionist Society of America and the International Encaustic Artists. A popular workshop instructor, he has conducted workshops all over San Diego County. His time is also in demand for demonstrations of his techniques in oil and acrylic painting, printmaking, and for his professional opinion as a juror.
