Remote and Distinctive Beauty
Like stepping back in time on a working ranch
Rancho la Bellota is a lovely place to host photo shoots; a rustic haven with a unique combination of remote and distinctive beauty. It is a working ranch, as you would have found in Baja California over 100 years ago. From the oak lined valley to the 1930’s ranch style architecture, vintage western artifacts, tack room and barn, Rancho la Bellota will feel like a step back in time.
As you walk along the many scenic hiking trials, the unique habitat of the surrounding canyon gives way to vegetation that is sparse and open. Inspiration awaits in every oak and sycamore tree, seasonal creek and spring, rugged hillside, boulder, wildlife and livestock, all within walking distance.
The ranch owner, Raul Aguiar, is a third-generation rancher with a strong drive to keep to original methods and the history of Baja ranching alive while so much of the coastal area is being developed and lost forever. With a rugged canyon backdrop and surroundings steeped in the tradition of the Baja cowboy and horse atmosphere you will be fully immersed in the authentic working ranch lifestyle!
The natural, beautiful and sure-footed ranch horses are hard to resist as subjects. They are Criollos and have been raised on Northern Baja Ranches where the terrain is rough and broken. Their footing abilities are incredibly well developed; having been trained by working cowboys in all areas from trail riding to cattle work.
Experience Rancho la Bellota’s warm and accommodating hospitality while you contemplate what to photograph next:
- Working ranch lifestyle and ranch happenings
- Wrangler’s riding out in the morning light
- Bringing the horses back to pens
- Chaps and spurs and horses at water troughs
- Livestock in natural surroundings
- Ranch architecture and vintage kitchen
- Horse stampedes
