Carol Catalano Webb and Christopher Webb, local artists at Two Artists in Love Studios, will lead a printmaking and clay workshop at Rancho La Bellota May 10–13, 2023. Carol will teach us fun, creative printmaking methods using linoleum and foam plates. Used in combination guests will be able to produce bold, richly textured and layered prints inspired by the backdrop of Rancho La Bellota.
We will explore shape, subject, color, and composition to create our design with sketches, photos, and found objects as inspiration. We will then learn how to transfer the image, carve and ink the printing plate. Then, using the press we will produce multiple images suitable for framing. Various methods for creating multicolored prints will also be introduced. Each guest will have multiple prints to take home.
Carol’s expertise will ensure that your printmaking experience is fun and successful. Linoleum block printing is an exciting medium to explore and foam-printing plates carve easily. Christopher will take their printmaking experience to a higher level using the linoleum blocks to create images in clay.
Working with Ceramic artist Christopher Webb, guests will use their linoleum plate to make an impression in clay to create a coaster or small tile. These will be fired on site. Carol will teach you how to create beautiful cold finishes in watercolor and colored pencil, resulting in an original tile for you to take home in addition to your prints.
Christopher will provide small pots and glazes for a exciting Raku firing, with flames, smoke and water all playing an important part of this ancient oriental process on the last night.
