Carol and Christopher Webb will lead a relief printmaking and Raku workshop May 10-13, 2023.
Printmaker Carol Catalano Webb will teach us fun, creative printmaking methods using linoleum plates. Several transparent layers of ink will create bold, richly colored and textured prints inspired by the backdrop of Rancho La Bellota.
Working together with ceramic artist Christopher Webb, guests will use the same linoleum plates to print their images onto bisqued clay tiles. Christopher will also supply hand-thrown ceramic pots to decorate with wax resist and various Raku glazes. Guests will participate in an exciting Raku firing. Their glazed ceramics pieces are taken from the kiln, still glowing red hot, and are placed on combustible materials, such as sawdust, leaves, and pine needles. After the hot, smoking pots are plunged into a water bath to cool, the unpredictable myriad of colors, both metallic and crackled, are revealed.
The last morning Carol and Christopher will show ways to further personalize your prints and pots with cold finishes. Expect the unexpected and marvel in your creativity!
